The past 2 days have been some of the most trying and difficult days we have faced. I went to my doctor's office for an ultrasound to confirm that the baby was doing alright. I had some concerns and I wanted to make sure that things were fine. That is where my life turned upside down. The ultrasound showed my baby measuring 12 1/2 weeks not the 16 weeks I was supposed to be. Then my doctor came in to tell me that there was no heartbeat and that the baby had passed. That was a moment that tore my heart in two. We scheduled a d and c for the following morning and Brian and I spent the rest of the day confused and giving one another comfort, Brian did most of the comforting and I don't think I could have been more blessed than to have him as my eternal love. He was my rock. About 2:45 am, 2 hours before I was scheduled to be at the hospital for surgery, the my life changed again, my water broke and I gave birth at home. My wonderful sister was able to rush over to be with our 3 sleeping girls as Brian rushed me to the emergency room. There we were taken care of by some of the best nurses and cna's there could be. My doctor, Dr. King as well is the most caring and sweetest doctor too. She cleaned up our baby, our baby boy and left us alone to hold him. He was the most beautiful baby boy. So tiny but so perfect. Brian and I named him between us, Skyler David Keeley, he weighed 10.2 grams, and was 7.6 cm long. Lily always said he was a boy, and he was. After a while I was taken to surgery and released a few hours later. We had so many family and friends bring meals and help and I am so grateful. I spent most of the last 24 hours wishing I had picture of my baby boy, and wondering what would happen to him. I worked up the strength to call and ask my questions. St. Lukes has the most caring and helpful staff. A woman named Judy Cross called me to tell me she had taken some pictures of Skyler and that he would be buried at the St. Lukes Memorial Garden where they bury all babies born before 24 weeks. The Memorial Garden is at the Dry Creek Cemetery, a few minutes from where we live. Every 2 to 3 months they have a memorial service. Judy also sent me a card with Skyler's hand and footprints on it, along with his weight, length and the date of his delivery, Sept. 2, 2010, along with the blanket, hat, and charm she used in his pictures. These few gestures have done so much for my spirit. I know that our faith and the love we have will help us through, writing Skyler's story helps me as well and I hope will touch someone's heart. Life is so precious, I am so very grateful for my daughters and my love has grown deeper for them through this experience. Brian and I have already grown closer through this and I love him more today than ever. I am so grateful for the many kind words and deeds that have been given to my family, and that are still ongoing. For all the help and care. I am grateful for the gospel of Jesus Christ, I am grateful for our knowledge that families are eternal. I am so grateful for Skyler and his precious imprint on our lives.
